Federal Office for the Control of Food and Drug now got the new powers, that allow authorities to control the rigid production and distribution of tobacco products. In particular, tobacco companies now will be obliged not only to obtain permission to manufacture new products, but also to check the level of nicotine in manufactured cigarettes, as well as harder to monitor the content of their own promotions.

“Despite the efforts of lobbyists, legislation was enacted to help the protection of the younger generation Americans from harmful habits,” – stressed B. Obama, speaking after the signing of the document in front of the White House.

According to official statistics, every fifth resident of the United States is the smoker. At the same time from illnesses related to smoking in the country, each dies about 440 thousand people. An estimated budget committee of Congress, the new laws will help to reduce the number of begining smokers by 11%, and adults – at 2%.
