Global warming has forced Switzerland and Italy to change the borders

Global warming has forced Switzerland and Italy to change the bordersSwiss parliament approved the transfer of the border with Italy, triggered by global warming. Such a solution was formed as a result of the special commission composed of representatives from both countries. The new demarcation lineб appears in the vicinity of Mount Matterhorn.

The border between the two countries passes through the Alpine glaciers. As the melting of ice due to the growth temperature, it “move” at a fairly significant distance. The difference between the old and the new boundaries would be from a few meters to 150 meters.

From all of the regions of the world, hardest hit by global warming, made an impact on the Alps. The area of some alpine glaciers (eg, in Italy) over the last hundred years has fallen by almost 90 percent. In total, according to the International Service for tracking the melting of glaciers (World Glacier Monitoring Service), from the 1850 the area of Alpine glaciers has been halved.
