U.S. President Barack Obama has appointed a new head of NASA former astronaut Charles Bolden. The candidacy of H. Bolden as leader of an aerospace agency must be approved by the Senate of the United States.
If this happens, C. Bolden becomes the first African American to hold this position.
C. Bolden is 62 years old, he undertook a four-space mission, two of them in the position of commander of the space shuttle.
The post is vacant, since the head of NASA left in January 2009. The former head of NASA, Michael Griffin has held the position since 2005. But resigned before the inauguration of B. Obama.
