The company Diageo, is shifting production at home of Johnnie Walker whiskey.
At Sunday, July 26, more than twenty thousand Scots took to the streets of the city Kilmarnock in protest against the closure of the plant, which spilled nearly the most famous drink in the world – Whiskey Johnnie Walker. Sad theatrical parade with bagpipes, songs, poetry and dance was to draw attention to the management of the company Diageo, which owns the right to production of Johnnie Walker.
The rally began with unique farewell with “Johnnie“, story of which began in 1820. In addition to ordinary workers from the factory and local residents to march through the city, organized by the regional council of East Ayrshire (this is an area where is located Kilmarnok), was attended by First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond, leader of the local Tory Annabel Goldie, a member of Parliament, Liberal Democrat Ross Finney, the singer Eddie Reader, the local football club chairman Michael Johnston and other local celebrities.
In addition, there are, at the city streets also appeared himself “Johnnie” – the man in red and white dress in the style of the logo of the famous whiskey. Scot very accurately and movingly copied “gait” drawn by John Walker – the father-founder of the brand. Present at the protest by local trade unions have stated, that the deed of Diageo goes against common sense and has no justification.
The company Diageo announced its plans to completely stop the production of whiskey at home of Johnnie Walker, in Kilmarnock, even in early July. According to the management of the company, the new home of “Johnnie” should be the city of Glasgow, which in turn shut down the plant for the production of alcohol. Authorities of Kilmarnock then scored an alarm and tried to persuade the leaders of the company to abandon, that intent. Not only that without the work will remain at least 900 people, 700 of whom work at the plant in Kilmarnock, so a history of Johnnie Walker brand is seriously hurt – it was this city where once all begun.
