cafedeparisRome police on Wednesday confiscated property of a powerful mafia clan ‘Ndrangheta amounting to 200 million euros, including the historic Cafe “Cafe de Paris”, which Frederico Fellini depicted in the movie of 1960 year, “Sweet Life”.

Carabinieri and the team to fight financial crime confiscated from suspected members of the clan ‘Ndrangheta cafes and restaurants, companies, and expensive cars, said officials.

Over the past few years, the clan from the Italian peninsula, Calabria became Sicilian mafia and became the most influential organized crime group in Italy. ‘Ndrangheta controls the drug trade in Europe, including smuggling cocaine from South America.

F. Fellini immortalized Cafe de Paris in a movie where Marcello Mastroianni, depicting paparazzi, on the prowl “Vespe” at Rome in search of famous people, and eventually falls in love with a glamorous movie star, played by Anita Ekberg.

In 2005, the cafe was sold for 250 thousand euro (354 000 USD) hairdresser from Calabria peninsula, which as reported by police sources, suspected of involvement in the group “Almaro-Palamar” controlled by clan ‘Ndrangheta.
