Unmarried peasants in the Indian state of Bihar, took to dipping of arable land, hoping, that the gods send rain to the dry fields.
According to witnesses, naked girls after sunset plowed fields and singing ancient hymns, praying for precipitation.
“The villagers believe, that by doing so, the gods would be flattered, and instead sent rain to the land, than provide a good harvest, – the representative told by the village council. – Residents of this area believe in this practice, and promise to continue as long as the gods do not send heavy rain.”
This year, for the first time in eight decades in India, virtually have no monsoon rains, which led to drought in some states.
