In Greenland, at the evening of July 7, 2009, occurred one of the strongest earthquakes in the history of the island – its magnitude was 6.1 on the Richter scale. Epicenter of tremors was located at sea Baffina, 170 km from the nearest settlement of Thule in the north-west coast of Greenland, the U.S. Geological Survey.
According to Danish geophysicists, the epicenter of the earthquake was 90 km away from the U.S. Air Force base in Thule, and the few inhabitants of the settlement had clearly felt the tremors.
