U.S. afghanistanU.S. troops in conjunction with Afghan soldiers at the southern Afghanistan have begun a major operation against the Taliban. The attack began with a massive helicopter assault on militant positions.

According to the Pentagon, at the operation in Helmand province involved nearly 4 thousand U.S. Marines, as well as about 650 soldiers of the Afghan army and police.

This is the biggest operation by American and Afghan troops against the Taliban, since the announcement of President Barack Obama, the new U.S. strategy against militants in Afghanistan. The head of the U.S. administration has repeatedly stated, that it was Afghanistan, not Iraq, the main front in the fight against global terrorism.
