Scientists from Italy, Switzerland, Spain and Russia seem to have discovered the first planet in the Andromeda nebula, at a distance of two and a half million light years from Earth.
Astronomers believe – abnormal proliferation of light, shown during the monitoring of the galaxies in 2004, is likely to indicate the presence of the planet. It may be bigger then Jupiter six times. These planets tend to be gas giants, the life on which is impossible because of the high gravity and atmospheric composition.
By the end of May 2009 is known to scientists 348 ekzoplanet’s and 295 planetary systems outside of the solar system. Everything found so far were in our planet’s star system – the Milky Way. The most distant known planet is at a distance of about 20 thousand light years from Earth.
