The statement was made on Saturday, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, on the basis of talks with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdo?an.For his part, Prime Minister of Turkey said that in the coming days to be completed all the procedures for tender, for which the Russian company Atomstroiexport will take part in the construction of nuclear power plants. “This company has been involved in the bidding, won, and others are no longer” – he added.

According to Putin, Russia is ready to take part in the construction of thermal power plant in Turkey with the delivery of additional volumes of gas. “We diversify its energy contacts with Turkey,” – he emphasized.

In addition, our countries agreed to extend the agreement for the western route of gas supply. “We agreed to immediately begin work on the extension of the agreement,” – said Erdogan. He recalled that the agreement was concluded in 1986, and its validity will expire in 2012. At the same time, he noted that Turkey is stepping up the volume of gas supplied from Russia.

The Prime Minister of Russia said that under this Agreement in Turkey comes to about 6 billion cubic meters of gas a year. However, Turkey’s gas needs by 2015 will increase substantially. The volume of deliveries of Russian natural gas to Turkey in 2008 amounted to 23.8 billion cubic meters (in 2007 – 23.5 billion), including about 10 billion cubic meters – the gas pipeline “Blue Stream”. In 2009, shipments are expected to increase to 25.5 billion cubic meters.

Moreover, Vladimir Putin has promised to carefully consider the request of the Turkish side to resolve issues related to customs and shipping goods. “We pay for this extra attention, let’s examine what can be done to remove all concerns, all the problems that arise from economic actors” – he said.

The Turkish side requested Russia to carry out selective customs control of goods. However, due to the large flow of contraband in this regard, Russian customs officials still do not go to such relief. Putin promised to look into the matter.

With regard to the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh problem, the prime minister said: “A compromise must be found by the parties to the conflict.”

According to him, and all other States to help reach a compromise on this issue may serve only as facilitators and guarantors of the execution of agreements already reached. But the Karabakh settlement will be provided with full support from Russia and Turkey.
