South Korean President Lee Myung-bak will sacrifice 33.1 billion of “South Korean won” (26.1 million U.S. dollars) of personal funds to support students. Special Charity Committee, established at the initiative of Lee Myung-bak in March this year, after four months of reflection, they decided how to dispose of presidential funds. Lee Myung-bak’s Foundation will fund scholarships for Korean youth, passes Xinhua, referring to press office of the president.
Lee Myung-bak was elected as president of South Korea in February 2008. During his election campaign he promised to donate part of his personal funds for charitable purposes.
In the past, Lee Myung-bak took place as a successful businessman and one time headed a large construction company Hyundai Engineering.
