H1N1 In Latvia, the first confirmed case of influenza A

In Latvia, the first laboratory confirmed case of influenza A H1N1, said Director of the Latvian Center Infectology – Baiba Rosenthal.

Patient is a woman who recently visited the U.S. and Canada, which has returned to Riga on 21 June. Symptoms of the disease has appeared during the flight and after landing, she was immediately taken to the Latvian Center Infectology.

Ministry of Health called on passengers of the flight, which arrived with a woman for five days ago, for carefully monitoring of their health and when they see the slightest signs of uneasiness, to immediately contact their doctor or public health agency.

According to the European Center for Diseases Control and Prevention, up to 22 June 2009 virus H1N1 so-called “pig flu” in Europe, have 4 thousand 245 people.
