The American Film Academy has made several changes in procedure of the selection for the “Oscar” paintings. For example, according to innovations adopted, now in the main category “Best Film” will be presented not five, as usual, but ten pictures. And of those ten, jury of United States will choose the best films of the year.

As stated by the organizers of the award, of the “Oscar” ceremony, this move will provide an opportunity to fight for the prestigious award a greater number of good movies, and probably will contribute to the growth of broadcast television ratings of the ceremony.

This change takes effect from next year – and is already at the next ceremony “Oscars” to be held March 7, 2010., In the category “best film” will be presented not five, but ten nominees.

As the President of the USA Film – Sid Ganis, the decision will provide an opportunity to fight for the prize in the main categories, including documentary films, films in foreign languages, animation strips – in general, the pictures, which usually do not get this nomination.

This innovation is not entirely new. Such a practice of the American Film Academy has already practiced – in the 1930′s and 1940′s. Last time “Oscar” for best film were brought ten pictures was in 1943. Back to then, won the movie “Casablanca” director Michael Curtis with Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman. Since 1943, in the main category is always put forward by the five paintings.
